Introduction
The 283 acre Pine Hill Park was created by combining two land parcels. The first parcel consists of 186 acres of the Sauer's family farm. The second consists of 97 acres of woodland owned by the Crall family. The property naturally divides itself into two distinct parts, each of which has its own characteristics .
Crall Woods
263 Township Road 1601
The name Crall woods is known regionally through a study preformed by the Ohio Biological Survey in 1964, and nationally through the designation of the area as a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service in 1974. The park district decided to keep the name Crall Woods, for that portion of the park . This woodland was extensively studied in the 1960's and results published in the Ohio Biological Survey book titled: An Ecological Study of Crall Woods, A Remnant of Forest Primeval in Ashland County, Ohio. Crall woods will be maintained as a natural area.

Sauer's Farm
3856 Township Road 1601
Please use the north drive ( by the sign). The farm which the Sauer's family acquired in the 1930's , was originally known throughout the area as Pine Hill because of the pine trees that lined the adjacent roads. Many of the pine trees still exist and the Sauer's farm suggested that pine hill would be an appropriate name for the whole park. The park district agreed. While a substantial portion of the old farmstead will be naturalized ,a portion will also be managed as a farm park to showcase our agricultural heritage. The park decided to name this portion of the parks Sauer's Farm. This portion is not currently open to the public, except for special events.
